Chapter History

Founded on February 1, 2023 after the merge of two area chapters, our chapter has adapted alongside a fast growing city.

Our presence in the Charlotte area has had a dynamic past beginning with the Charlotte alumnae chapter founded on March 19, 1964. The founding members worked hard to expand their ranks while programming a variety of activities to maximize the role of the Fraternity within the Charlotte community.

As the city of Charlotte grew over the subsequent 40 years, in both population and geographical area, a need to serve members based on location within the city became a focus of area alumnae.

To meet these needs, the Lake Norman/North Charlotte alumnae chapter was founded on June 2, 2008. Much like the founding members of the Charlotte chapter over 40 years prior, chapter leadership and members focused on programming and building connections that would enhance the alumnae experience of sisters in the Northern areas of the city.

Both chapters continued to serve Charlotte area members for 15 years, dedicated to shaping the alumnae membership experience around the active lives of 100+members across the city.

In July 2022, the two chapters announced the merging of the chapters into the Greater Charlotte chapter. Just as two chapters formed to serve the growing Charlotte area membership, they now joined together to create an extraordinary membership experience across the city.

The significant development of the Greater Charlotte area has expanded our membership across 3,000 square miles and we’re proud to serve alumnae in many neighborhoods throughout the city. It continues to be a goal of chapter leadership to create a meaningful alumnae experience that is accessible to all members, no matter where they live or work in Charlotte.

From white violets to recent graduates, our members participate in a wide variety of activities aimed at extending our sisterhood beyond college and furthering the purpose of Zeta Tau Alpha.
